Smart Windows maintenance.

Maintaining your Windows is key to fast, healthy and fully working computer. In this article are listed 5 main ways how to take care of system stability and health.

1. Disk defragmentation. Disk Defragmenter is Microsoft Windows utility that is designed to solve problems that occurs because of the way hard disks store data. It is essential to defragment your HDD at least few times a year. To defragment your HDD, select Start -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Disk Defragmenter. Select disk or partition and click "Defragment":


2. ScanDisk. ScanDisk checks the disk platters for defects and also looks for lost clusters that are sometimes created when a program aborts. Run ScanDisk at least once a week to keep your HDD healthy. It takes only few minutes to complete. To run ScanDisk, click right mouse button on drive letter and select "Properties". Enter "Tools" and click "Check Now". Check "Automatically fix file system errors" and hit "Start":


3. Disk Cleanup. The Disk Cleanup tool helps you free up space on your hard disk by searching your disk for files that you can safely delete. You can choose to delete some or all of the files. To run Disk Cleanup select Start -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Disk Cleanup. Select disk and check all types of cleaning. Then click OK to perform action:


4. Clean registry. Windows registry is central hierarchical database used to store information. As time passes by, it fills with unwanted and old information. You can clean all garbage by using some registry cleaning software (ask Google) or clean by yourself. To explore Windows registry select Start -> Run and type: regedit. Be careful! Don't delete anything you don't know - it can damage Windows.

5. Use Windows Update to keep your OS safe and secure. Open Internet Explorer, select Tools -> Windows Update and follow all instructions:
